If you were going to get Admirals Club access anyway, and did not yet have American Airlines Elite status, this card seems like a no-brainer. If you weren’t, it’s not quite so obvious a choice. The bonus is OK, but nothing to write home about, especially considering the 75k offers American has had out there recently. Continental only gives targeted first-year-free offers on its Presidential Plus card, so I don’t expect American to raise that 25k bonus mile promo either. The Elite-type benefits around early boarding and checked bags are nice, but I’m guessing that most who would shell out $450 for an American Airlines card already have elite access.
